A new standard for technical information: SCHAKO partners with kothes to establish digital processes
Legacy processes, two locations and no consistent authoring workflows
At SCHAKO, documentation was shaped by processes that had developed over time: Content was created in Word and FrameMaker, revisions came from product management, and they were implemented by the design department. There was no common concept for the sites in Germany and Spain.

kothes supported SCHAKO from the CCMS selection process through to the decision to use Paligo in the long term. Together, requirements were identified, systems tested based on realistic scenarios and, eventually, Paligo selected. The proof of concept focused on the migration of existing content, modularisation, new workflows and clear responsibilities. kothes also provided editorial and methodological support during critical phases. This resulted in a well-founded basis for decision-making for the future documentation strategy.
Structuring the selection process
In workshops, SCHAKO defined goals, a roadmap and test scenarios. The decision was made in favour of Paligo – a cloud-based, collaborative CCMS with flexible publication channels.
Implementing the proof of concept
kothes provided support with migration, modularisation, information products, workflows and responsibilities. Surveys and regular meetings ensured practicality and acceptance.
Managing critical phases & staying on target
kothes supported the editorial implementation of the PoC and created the basis for decision-making in good time. In November 2025, SCHAKO confirmed Paligo as the central platform.
kothes and SCHAKO have established key foundations for technical writing:
A team that works across sites and languages, operating openly and in a self-organised manner. Paligo has been extensively tested and is now the platform for all operational tasks.
Clear processes, responsibilities and modularisation create a flexible structure. A portal manages requests for changes and new content. Personas and KPIs ensure user-centricity and improvement.
The strategic course was also set together: Thanks to the successful pilot phase and the transparent results, the management decided to use Paligo for 36 months.

In 2026, kothes will also be training the new team and supporting other document types with on-the-job training.
